ISS ESG Scholarship

The Sustainable Finance Research Group and ISS ESG award travel grants for research stays as part of the ISS ESG scholarship to PhD students/postdocs at the University of Hamburg. At the end of the research stay, a short report outlining the results of the research stay is expected to be written. The goal should be a top-tier publication. Each publication must indicate that it was funded by ISS ESG.

The following costs can be covered:

 

  • One-time arrival and departure

  • Accommodation costs for a minimum of two consecutive months and a maximum of four consecutive months (max. EUR 900 per month)

  • The maximum amount per funded research project is EUR 5,000.

 

Requirements for applications:

​

  • PhDs/postdocs from the University of Hamburg in the field of sustainable finance.

  • Current, innovative research project in the field of sustainable finance to be worked on during the research stay, particularly in the following areas:

    • Climate chance

    • Sustainable Development Goals

    • ESG ratings

    • Data collection and data processing

    • Regulation

  • Community engagement (including within the university)

 

To apply, please send the following documents at least 3 months before your intended research stay to info@sfrg.org:

  • Tabular CV

  • Detailed letter of motivation

  • Detailed research proposal (research gap, methodology/identification strategy, literature review, expected results)

  • Confirmation/invitation from the host university

 

The selection/evaluation process is based on the following criteria, among others:

​

  • Quality of the research project

  • Innovative approach of the research project and transferability

  • Previous top-tier publications according to Academic Journal Guide (formerly ABS), UT Dallas Journal Ranking, or FT 50 (papers in the R&R process also count)

  • Other outstanding achievements (e.g., Best Paper Award)

  • Methodological skills (please describe in your letter of motivation)

  • Previous community engagement
