Shaping the future by targeting private capital into renewable energies, modern heating networks, and clean technologies: The 3rd Sustainable Finance Summit

—hosted by UmweltPartnerschaft Hamburg, FCH Finance City Hamburg GmbH and the Sustainable Finance Research Group— focused on how Hamburg can steer capital even more effectively towards decarbonization. Katharina Fegebank, Deputy Mayor and Senator at the Authority for Environment, Climate, Energy and Agriculture (BUKEA), said: “Sustainable finance can be a real game changer in supporting our transformation—not only in order to become climate-neutral, but also to make us more resilient to geopolitical risks.”

Dr. Andreas Dressel, Senator for Finance and Districts: “By bringing together the expertise of financial market participants, the real economy, academia and the public sector, we have excellent conditions to further develop Hamburg as a hub for sustainable finance. And we are already active: we are just about to issue our first Green Bond for the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg.”

This will be a listed bond with a fixed interest rate. It is primarily aimed at institutions, but it is also open to retail investors via their house bank. The funds will be used exclusively for environmentally sustainable projects, e.g. climate protection measures or sustainable infrastructure. The summit sends a clear message: climate protection and a strong economic and financial location go hand in hand.
