From July 2 to 4, 2025, around 120 participants from the fields of science, finance, and politics gathered in Berlin to discuss key research findings from the last three years and strengthen the exchange between theory and practice as part of the “Climate Protection and Finance” (KlimFi) project funded by the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology, and Space (BMFTR).
The event kicked off with a PhD & PostDoc workshop that focused specifically on young scientists. Nearly 20 doctoral students and postdocs from various projects had the opportunity to discuss their questions and ideas on the topics of sustainable finance and political work with Katharina Beck (Member of the German Bundestag, B90 Die Grünen) and Matthias Kopp (Co-Lead, Made in Germany 2030).
This was followed by the official Sustainable Finance and Climate Protection (SFCP) closing conference. The focus was on presenting, discussing scientifically, and practically classifying the research results of the 14 funded KlimFi projects. Finally, Prof. Dr. Timo Busch moderated a panel discussion with Prof. Dr. Thomas Dietz (Deutsche Bundesbank), Matthias Kopp (Made in Germany 2030), Dr. Klaus Krummrich (University of Applied Sciences for Finance and Management), Georg Lanfermann (German Accounting Standards Committee e.V.), and Julia Taescher (DWS).
Both events were organized by the University of Hamburg in collaboration with the Verein für Umweltmanagement und Nachhaltigkeit in Finanzinstituten e.V. (VfU) and marked the successful conclusion of the KlimFi project.
Prof. Bassen reveals further details about the KlimFi funding program in this interview.
