Prof. Dr. Alexander Bassen appointed to the German Advisory Council on Global Change (WBGU)

The German Federal Cabinet today appointed Prof. Dr. Alexander Bassen to the German Advisory Council on Global Change (WBGU). Over the next four years, he will thus contribute to analyzing global environmental and development problems, evaluating national and international research on sustainable development and making recommendations for action and research. “Global environmental changes pose material risks not only for people but also for companies. A transformation of the economy and the capital market towards more sustainability has already begun. I am very pleased to be able to contribute the research of our ‘Research Group on Sustainable Finance’ to WBGU,” says Prof. Dr. Alexander Bassen from the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences at the University of Hamburg.

WBGU was established in 1992 as an independent scientific advisory body. The Advisory Council regularly prepares reports and comments on current issues, for example on UN climate conferences. WBGU has nine members, who are appointed by the Federal Cabinet at the proposal of the Ministers of Education and Research (BMBF) and the Environment, Nature Conservation, Construction and Nuclear Safety (BMUB) for a period of four years.
