At the end of October, the German Federal Impact Investing Initiative (BIII) published its market study “Impact Investing in Germany 2022”. Prof. Dr. Timo Busch and Dr. Brigitte Bernard-Rau were the lead authors of the study, which was conducted in cooperation with the Sustainable Finance Research Group at the University of Hamburg.
Key findings of the market study include:
The market continues to grow dynamically. The total volume of self-declared impact assets amounts to €38.9 billion, but only one-third of this can be classified as impact-aligned (€3.12 billion) or impact-generating (€9.23 billion)
Impact investors are driven by a conviction to solve pressing social and environmental problems.
The environment, energy, and health play a dominant role in impact investing.
Private equity is one of the key asset classes. It can be assumed that private equity will remain a particularly dynamic asset class in the impact investing market in the future.
Just over a third of participating impact investors have their impact verified externally.
All results of the markeet study can be viewed here.
