Prof. Dr. Timo Busch guest on SRF radio program “Espresso”

Greenpeace Switzerland has tested the “climate-friendly” investments offered by Swiss banks. The results show that the quality of advice on sustainable investing is poor at most financial institutions. Greenpeace also states that investment advisors know too little about sustainable investments and the Paris Climate Agreement. In its press release, the environmental organization makes a clear demand: something has to change. Banks should develop more climate-friendly products and train their advisors. In addition, the Federal Council and Parliament should define minimum requirements for sustainable investments.

Prof. Dr. Timo Busch is somewhat surprised by the devastating results of the test consultations at Swiss banks. He explains: “The study equates climate compatibility with the Paris targets. However, it must be noted that the Paris targets require massive structural change in the economy.” This transition cannot be achieved overnight at the push of a button. It is therefore not surprising that many investment funds have not yet implemented this. Prof. Busch generally recommends that end customers invest in sustainable investment products, as climate is ultimately only one aspect of sustainability. The advantage here is that there are independent labels for this.
